Hermits and networkers
‘Are you a hermit?’ was one of our most popular surveys, with 2,660 women writers taking part. We found that 10% are self-confessed hermits who prefer to write alone and 35% are firmly plugged into their local literary scene, going regularly to workshops, courses and literary events.

In between were many women who would like to be more involved with other writers, but find it difficult because of where they live, because of childcare or health issues, because of lack of time or low income – or simple shyness.
