Our 2022 Children's & YA Novel Competition is open!

'Winning the novel competition is like having a golden ticket to get agencies to read your book’ Lu Hersey, author of Deep Water

'I met my agent at the talent party you organised for the children’s novel finalists and signed a two-book deal six months later’ Francesca Armour-Chelu, author of Fenn Halflin and the Fearzero

Submit the first 3,000 words of your novel for children and/or young adult readers. Our judges are award-winning author and Children's Laureate 2019-22, Cressida Cowell; children's literature critic, poet and editor, Imogen Russell Williams, and Literary Agent at Madeleine Milburn Agency, Chloe Seagar.

The first prize is £5,000 and finalists receive manuscript feedback from The Literary Consultancy and personal introductions to literary agents – the majority are signed as a result. So it’s not just about winning. Past entrants have told us that even being longlisted for this prestigious competition has proved an important stepping-stone in their careers.

Closing date: 19 September
