Writing Days: Poetry

10-4, Friday 23 October, or 10-4, Sunday 25 October, online

If you want to shape your ideas into poetry, or learn how to revise the poetry you’ve already written, this is the Writing Day for you.

In the third of our online masterclasses, award-winning poet and tutor Hannah Lowe will guide you through the complete evolution of a new poem: from first spark to finished draft. Spend the morning discovering new work, and devote your afternoon to deepening and refining it.

This generative creative writing workshop will explore the use of hybrid forms in writing both poetry and prose. We will read and consider hybrid texts from a range of writers including Anne Carson, Ocean Vuong, Maggie Nelson, Claudia Rankine and draw inspiration to draft our own pieces of hybrid writing.

Ghost-whispering | A workshop with Alison Binney

How might women’s voices of the past speak to our lives today?

This workshop will invite participants to think about the voices of women from the past. What are they saying? Why are they saying it? How are they saying it? What are others saying about them? How might their voices speak to our lives today? We'll explore a range of historical sources including images, court reports, newspaper articles and rule books to listen to what these women might be whispering to us, and to use them to craft our own poems in response.
