Upcoming Salon events

May Write-ins | 12-1pm via Zoom
Our May write-ins will kickoff on 12 May at our usual time, 12-1pm BST. Whether you've got a project you're working on or just enjoy writing in the company of others, come along for a quiet, congenial hour writing. Visit the Salon to join in.

What to Include in Your Memoir (And What to Leave Out) | with Kirsty Logan | 30 April, 5-7pm
Putting real life onto a page is a process of transformation: taking a lifetime of detail and character, and shaping it into a coherent narrative. Let award-winning memoirist and novelist Kirsty Logan help you figure out what to include – and what to leave out. Visit the event's page in the Salon to register.

The 'Memoirisation' of Time | with Lily Dunn | 13 May, 5-7pm
One of the defining features of memoir is what Phillip Lopate calls the 'dual perspective' of the voice of 'then' with the voice of 'now', looking back and reflecting on that experience with hindsight and all you've come to understand. In this workshop Lily will help you to identify how other writers have dealt with time jumps in their memoirs, to better control your own. Visit the event's page in the Salon to register.

Writing Tales from Tree Folklore | with Zoe Gilbert | 9 June, 5-7pm
In this session Zoe will explore the rich folklore of the elder tree and the oak tree, including strange beliefs and old tales. You'll then use these as inspiration to create new stories about these enchanted trees, imbued with folkloric magic. Registration opening soon.

From Beginning to End | with Huma Qureshi | 30 June, 5-7pm
All too often, short story writers don't know where to begin or where to end their stories, meaning their stories either don’t get started at all or fizzle out somewhere in the middle. Join award-winning author Huma Qureshi on 30 June from 5-7pm for a short story writing salon focused on the craft of opening and closing a short story, how to create a captivating start to hook readers in as well as a resonant ending that will stay with your reader long after they have read the last word. Expect writing exercises, thoughtful discussion and a chance to read your work outloud for feedback. Registration opening soon.

Crafting tiny tales | A workshop with Martha Lane | 14 July, 5-7pm
On 14 July, join Martha Lane from 5-7pm for a workshop full of prompts designed to take your flash fiction to the next level, and make those tiny tales linger in your readers' minds. Expect to delve into everything from character, and setting, to speculative plots and heart-rending premises.
