Mslexicon Writing Weekends

A house-party like no other

Mslexicon is an opportunity devote three days to nurturing your writing craft and career with the help of leading agents, authors, tutors and mentors – all hand-picked for the depth of their knowledge and commitment to supporting women writers.

‘The calibre of agents and speakers was amazing'

‘My head's stuffed with advice and exploding with ideas’

‘Everyone was so friendly and easy to talk to’

Who is it for?

Our previous Mslexicon weekends have been for  writers of creative prose, including novels, short fiction, memoir and narrative non-fiction, but in future we hope to programme a separate Mslexicon event for poets and writers for performance.

Take your pick

  • 28 writing workshops
  • 20 expert talks, panel discussions and Q&As
  • 30 literary agents and author-tutors providing 1-2-1 surgeries

Where is it?

Everything takes place at Devonshire Hall in Leeds, accessible by train, coach or car from all over the UK. It’s a rambling listed building with cloisters, stone mullions, and its own colony of rescue hens. Our expert guests and Mslexicon ticket-holders stay on site, so you can pop back to your room for some private time – or stay up late chatting in the bar, or outside in the lawned grounds under the stars.

Whatever stage you have reached in your writing, there will be something to suit you at Mslexicon.

Covid update

In March 2020 we were forced to cancel Mslexicon 2020, planned for 10-12 July, with special guests Bernardine Evaristo and A L Kennedy. Due to the continuing uncertainty about the progress of the pandemic, it is unlikely that we will be able to run a similar weekend for 2021, with all the bustling intimacy of cosy workshop rooms, live events and performance spaces. However, we are investigating ways of programming a virtual Mslexicon later in the year.
