She was then promoted to full-blown agent at the Agency Group. She moved to the Bent Agency’s UK office in early 2017, where she is growing their adult list:‘I’m looking for commercial and accessible literary adult fiction and non-fiction. I love stories that make me cry, that show the world through a different set of eyes, and that are high-concept or have unreliable narrators. I’m also interested in speculative fiction, stories that have a slight magical or fantasy element to them – but nothing that feels too unrecognisable from our own world.‘I’m particularly looking for UK-based début authors. I would like to find a heart-wrenching love story, whether it be a parent-child relationship as in A Boy Made of Blocks, has a slight magical element to it like The Time Traveler’s Wife, or is simply a beautiful romance. I’m also looking for a good saga. Other favourite books are The Rosie Project and Where’d You Go, Bernadette? and I’d love to find something with a similarly quirky voice.‘I am always looking for novels which have that strong hook to pull you through the story, from beginning to end. The final thing I’ll mention here is that I am also looking for a well-crafted, high- concept suspense novel – think I Am Pilgrim and Lie With Me.’Represents: commercial fiction, women’s fiction, literary fiction, crime/thriller/mystery, speculative fiction, memoir, pop culture, humour, cookbooksDoes not represent: picture books, children’s books, YA, poetry, self-help, reference, short storiesHow to submit: email manningqueries@thebentagency.com with the title of your manuscript in the subject line.
